As incarceration was once something to be avoided and rejected, in some communities it is now expected and accepted. There is a rising trend in incarceration numbers for black males and females over the past three decades. The trend is so high that it can only be described as a pattern of mass incarceration. According to recent data, blacks are incarcerated five times more than whites making up nearly half the prison population. Additionally, Black youth have the highest rate of involvement in the juvenile justice system. A return to the traditional family is a fundamental part in reversing this devastating trend.
